No to the TV Show, Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $5000
When it comes to selling houses the more awareness that’s generated the better. The more people that see the house and its attributes the greater the chances are of selling it. Real estate is a numbers game. So, the more potential home buyers that see a house listed for sale increase the odds of receiving an offer.
There are many internet sites now that showcase homes for sale such as Trulia, Yahoo, Craigs List, Realtor.com and Google Base just to name a few. Many homebuyers these days will start their home search on the internet. Unlike Sunday’s newspaper the internet provides easy access, 24 hour search capabilities. A property featured for sale has 24/7 access….in other words, it’s always on sale.
We received a recent call from one of the television shows. They wanted to showcase one of our homes for sale. Excellent awareness and free publicity, what could be better? But wait, it gets better. In addition, they were offering to provide cosmetic upgrades totaling $5000, absolutely free to the homeowner. I can already see those new years resolutions are going to come true, 2008 will be a good year! The requirements were only that it be occupied. Leave the rest to them.
Now you’re probably thinking “what could I do with $5000 in free upgrades for my house. Maybe replace the tired outdated carpet, a fresh new coat of paint, maybe new kitchen cabinets. The possibilities are endless. And I did say it was free, gratis, complimentary, no charge, pro bono, you don’t owe me anything!
It’s A Nice Offer, But No Thank You
Imagine our surprise when we presented this to the homeowner and after several days of procrastination, they decided not to proceed. A 10 month supply of homes on the market and they choose not to make their home more marketable. People with homes for sale all over the city would jump at this opportunity. No jumping here, we like our house just the way it is and don’t want to change it.
No doubt about it, real estate can be a very emotional experience. Some times parting with something that has been a member of your family along with the many memories that were created can be hard to part with, let alone change.
