National Association of Realtors says, “Unleash the Hounds”
The National Association of Realtors is calling on the power of its members to stimulate the economy. Seems our elected leaders are having some difficulty reaching a consensus on the stimulus package, NAR has sent emails to its members to get involved and encourage our elected representatives to act. The letters are written and coded to be sent either electronically, snail mail or both to the local Representative and to both of our Senators.
The communication received this afternoon is recapped below:
Subject: Reviving the real estate market must be the focus of the Stimulus plan to be sent to the President
Dear—:
The current economic crisis is the result of problems in the nations housing markets. (no disagreement there) Efforts to boost the overall economy will be wholly ineffective if the Economic Stimulus bill that goes to the President does not include provisions focused on stabilizing real estate markets. (haven’t we been saying that for about a year now?)
Both the House and Senate versions include provisions that are consistent with a housing plan that Realtors have advocated for several months. A few more changes are needed. Provisions offered by the National Association of Realtors that must be included are:
The $15,000 homebuyer tax credit that was proposed by Senators Isakson, Lieberman (who’s side is he on now?) and Dodd (now this guy knows a little about low mortgage rates and preferential treatment) Permanent FHA, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac loan limits that match the levels enacted in 2008. Increased resources for foreclosure mitigation efforts to stem the flood of foreclosures Housing has always lifted our economy out of past economic downturns. Let’s get housing moving now so that the economy can recover. Please support the inclusion of these critical provisions in any economic stimulus bill sent to the President.
Thank you for your hard work.
Sincerely,
Say what you will about the National Association of Realtors, but my hat is off to their organizational efforts. I don’t entirely approve of all of their positions, but this one has my full support. With one touch of the mouse, I was able to send the above to Senator Boxer, Senator Feinstein and Congressman Schiff. I’m sure the offices are being inundated as I write this.
Homeownership has a powerful lobby. That must be why no matter the economic situation, no matter which way the political winds blow, Now is a great time to buy a house, just ask the NAR!
